Virgo- The Hermit card

ree

Let’s look at the signs with a fresh perspective–through the lens of the Tarot. The Hermit card  is connected to the archetype of Virgo.

Virgo is connected with the time of year where we harvest what we have sown. I imagine a farmer walking their fields and assessing which crops did well and which crops did not. With a critical eye, they are assessing what needs to change and how to adapt. Perhaps this year they planted too many squash and not enough cucumbers. How will they plan differently in the spring when it's time to plant seeds again? For now, they need to suss and sort through what has already fruited. They need to discern the best of their yield that will help them get through the winter months. Perhaps there is a nod towards perfection, but it's in an effort to eat well during the lean months ahead. It won't help them to jar tomatoes that are rotten. If the mason jars aren't sealed properly, then whatever has been stored will go bad. So, being particular isn't harsh, it's a necessary part of the scenario.

The Hermit is also wandering. It's a more internal journey, and Virgo's analytical skills can help in the Hermit's quest for self-realization and self-discovery. Consider the lantern the Hermit carries. The light helps cut into the darkness. Virgo is connected to the fires of Mt. Olympus--which had vestal virgins guarding and protecting the light so it never goes out. Virgo is also ruled by Mercury which represents communication, perceptions, and guidance. Mercury is the psychopomp, the only god who can go to the underworld and back. What information is being reflected back to you? The Hermit, like Mercury, is a kind of psychopomp. He boldy looks within for answers and guidance. He reminds us of our own internal light and the need to trust our intuition.

How does the archetype of the Hermit help you during this time? We are in the midst of changing seasons, from summer to fall here in the northern hemisphere. Virgo reminds us to adapt and shift with the change. Getting clear on what your particular needs will be during this time could help you navigate this time more practically. Organize, discern, and priortize are some of Virgo's super powers. The Hermit says use those strengths to guide you during this time of fluctuation. By determining what's most important, you can let go of what's no longer servicable.
