The Moon’s archetype is connected to the concepts of safety, security, the cyclical phases of our lives, the feminine principle, the intuitive function, and the unconscious among other things. The Moon rules the tides, so we are immediately connected to water and the ebb and flow of life. As humans, 50% of our bodies are composed of water, so the Moon has a strong influence in our life.
Water connotes emotions and we can often be surprised when there’s an upswell of feelings and how that manifests in our lives. We only have to note what happens during a Full Moon to understand how the amplifications of emotions can cause all sorts of reactions. Self awareness and our intuition connects us to our emotional bodies and the wisdom that lives there.
The Moon also represents the Mother archetype reminding us that we all have needs– a need to feel safe, cared for, loved, and nourished. These needs are primal. In other words, these are basic needs, and as such, we are all compelled to find sources that provide such sustenance.
The Moon has phases, sometimes she’s in full illumination, sometimes she’s barely a sliver in the night sky, and all the variations in between, and as such, we can remember that we may feel more needy at times than at others.
The invitation of the Moon is to delve into these darker areas and come out with insight that helps you connect to those needs. We may start noticing instead of reacting unconsciously we have a little more space to respond to whatever comes up. Knowing our why behind any feeling or reaction can help us assess our needs and make changes. Showing yourself love and compassion as you navigate your internal waters is always a part of the lunar archetype.
