PLUTO

Pluto is associated with Hades and the underworld. Cerberus, the 3 headed dog, guards the entrance to the underworld–no one in Hades was allowed to leave and if you hadn’t died you were not allowed entry. Cerberus conjured fear, just as the words and images connected to Pluto can be scary stuff–often taboo. Our culture doesn’t like to deal with, talk about, or consider death. Pluto’s archetype reminds us that all things die, and there is always something in the process of breaking down before it can regenerate. Pluto, in our charts, represents our deep unconscious–where we ignore or sweep things under the carpet. These can be parts of ourselves we don’t like or have been conditioned to hide (ex: generations of women being told they aren’t allowed to be angry as that is unbecoming, etc). So, Pluto makes us pay attention to power dynamics. Are we being powered over, empowered, or dominating over others? Pluto is like the rotor-rooter of the Zodiac. He digs and excavates, searching out for areas of decay and toxicity. Our rock bottom may not be Pluto’s, so where Pluto is in your chart symbolizes areas of life are often intense, deep, and profound. In order to attain regeneration, we need to surrender to all that is hidden or denied. Are there places we haven’t fully explored in our ways of being or in past memories or even traumas? The process may feel brutal but is a necessary part of regeneration.
