Libra- The Justice card

ree

Let’s look at the signs with a fresh perspective–through the lens of the Tarot. The Justice card is connected to the archetype of Libra.

Libra is the only sign of the zodiac that is represented by an inanimate object--the scale. I remember going to the market with my mom as a young kid. When we got to the produce section, she would use the large scale to weigh something so she knew how much it would cost. That was the function of the scale to measure an object and assign a value to it.

When we look at the Justice card we see a person sitting on a throne with a sword in one hand and a scale in the other. What comes to your mind when you think of justice? Do you think of fairness? Impartiality? Vengence? It makes me think of evaluation. There is a need to assess and to judge. Libra is a cardinal air sign. Cardinality is about initiation and leadership. The element of air has to do with communication and the intellect. When I think of times where justice is needed though, often the first thing to go out the window is logic and talking.

Let's take a step back then and look at the ruler of Libra: Venus. What does Venus have to do with justice, though? Venus is often connected to beauty, art, and aesthetics. The saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is Venusian and reminds us that there is something akin to judgement when we decide what we find beautiful. What is attractive to one person may not be to another. We often learn what is worthwhile by comparing two things. Just like my mom in the grocery store, she may have found that two pounds of apples wasn't worth the equivalence in dollars, so put some apples back. In other words, she based her decision on worth.

Libra can remind us what is worth our time, energy, and strength. We may be called to revaluate certain situations, people, or things and by reminding ourselves to connect to what we find worthy, it may make the judging a little easier. You may ask yourself: Is this (fill in the blank) worth my time? What do I get out of it? What do I give away? It is a fair or equitable equation? If something is out of balance, is there something I can do to bring into stasis? Can I appreciate those moments of equanamity, knowing they are constantly changing? Can I continue to revaluate this situation until I'm clear on what is worth my blood, sweat, and tears?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Justice and how this tarot card can help us dive deeper into the realms of Libra. Leave your comments below!
