Astro Highlights for December 2024

Below is a quick reference guide to some of the aspects for the month of December. 

December 1

• New Moon 9 degrees of Sagittarius

  • The new moon always heralds a new beginning but with Mercury retrograde and a square from Saturn, we may feel our options are limited, so choose the ones that bring the most optimism or most significant.

December 4

• Sun in Sagittarius square Saturn in Pisces at 13 degrees

  • Life lesson time. There’s a necessary “no” occurring. There’s a need to ignore the superfluous and focus on the consequential

• Mercury RX in Sagittarius opposite Jupiter RX in Gemini at 16 degrees

  • This is an evolving 3-part story. First, Mercury opposed Jupiter back in mid November, now Mercury is RX and opposing again, and finally, when Mercury goes direct it will oppose Jupiter again on 12/26. They’re forming a special relationship that can have a positive and negative charge–so maybe some ideas or communications get cancelled out. You may need more concrete data, so don’t be afraid to ask all the questions you have. Be willing to go back to the drawing board if necessary.

December 5

• Mercury RX conjunct Sun at 14 degrees Sagittarius

  • Where do we need some REmedies in our Sag house? Pull out all the -re words: replenish, reconsider, revise, etc. We may need to explore options, and in doing so, find some new insight that provides illumination on the steps we want to take to go forward. 

December 6

• Mars stations RX at 6 degrees of Leo

  • A necessary need to review/re-examine, and reassess our actions. This is a significant transit that will be unfolding over the next several months. Take note of how you react when there are delays. Pay attention to flares of anger, drama with others, and frustration. The image that comes to mind is trying to patiently work through a knot while under pressure. What motivates us? Brings us agency? A sense of vitality? Ask yourself, “What do I want?” and “How do I want to lead?”

• Mercury RX in Sagittarius square Saturn in Pisces at 13 degrees

  • This is connected to a 3 part story. We had the first square back in mid November when Saturn was RX. Now Mercury is. Time to proofread any contracts. Have we crossed all the T’s? Dotted all the i’s? What revisions are necessary? Before something goes to publication, there’s an editing process needed. We don’t want to rush that undertaking. We could uncover costly mistakes. 

December 7

• Venus moves into Aquarius

  • We may find the quirky and unconventional alluring. We may love a good rebellion. Let’s talk about all the ways we are different. 

• Venus conjuncts Pluto in Aquarius at 0 degrees

  • We may notice a power couple aligning in the news. Think of Beauty and the Beast and their dynamics.  What is our relationship to being powered over or being empowered by the people we are connected to? New ways of relating and innovating. 

• Neptune stations direct at 27 degrees Pisces

  • When you take the time to rest, meditate, or do something that recalibrates you in some spiritually significant way, what do you notice? It may not be a glaringly obvious outward change, but something has shifted. That’s the energy of Neptune going direct. We may feel an adjustment has been made but it’s hard to articulate. 

December 12

• Venus in Aquarius opposite Mars RX in Leo at 5 degrees

  • Our relationships could take a feisty turn. We may need to assert ourselves in our most important relationships. Some changes for the greater whole. Drama and intensity. Perhaps some emotional spats.

December 15

• Full Moon in Gemini at 23 degrees

  • This full moon may highlight Jupiter’s tour in Gemini in that we have too much on our plate. We may be in data overload and we become fully aware of how scattered we feel. Who can decide with so many options?

• Mercury stations direct in Sagittarius at 6 degrees

  • Communications may slowly become more clear. Whatever has been in review feels like it can advance again. 

December 21

• Sun moves into Capricorn

  • Welcome the Winter solstice in the northern hemisphere. The light is slowly building again. Capricorn is a cardinal, earth sign so get grounded and as I tell my kids a lot, “make good choices.” What is worth the effort and work?

December 24

• Jupiter RX in Gemini squares Saturn in Pisces at 14 degrees

  • We had this aspect back around August 20th. (There will be another one in 2025 but Jupiter will have moved on to Cancer and Saturn will be in Aries) Jupiter is retrograde so there may be a feeling of overwhelm. There’s a moment of stark reality and choices need to be made in order to move forward.  Systemic and organizational overhauls. What modifications are necessary when it comes to these places in our chart?

December 26

• Mercury in Sagittarius opposite Jupiter RX in Gemini at 13 degrees

  • Here we have the final meet up between these two. Mercury is direct now, so we may have a clearer idea of what we’d like to do. Big plans. You may finally feel the hope needed to take a calculated risk. There’s a chance you could overpromise and underdeliver but a lot of learning happens in the process.

December 27

• Mercury in Sagittarius squares Saturn in Pisces at 14 degrees

  • Final part of our 3 part series with Mercury and Saturn. We’ve done all the evaluating, thinking, and considering we are going to do. The timer has gone off and you’re being asked if this is your final decision. We’ve looked over all the options and now we need to focus on the best option and move forward. 

December 28

• Venus in Aquarius square Uranus RX in Taurus at 23 degrees.

  • Let’s shake things up. Time for new things, new people, new ideas. Let's innovate and embrace the different. 

December 30

• New Moon in Capricorn at 9 degrees

  • This New Moon has a sextile with Saturn in Pisces. Saturn is the ruler of Capricorn so there’s some dignity here. Grounded, determined, focused energy. What are your new goals? What is worth the consistent effort? Stoic, strategic long term plans.
