January 14- 21, 2024

Updated: Jan 25, 2024

The biggest energy this week, in my opinion, is the Sun and Pluto conjunction in Capricorn.

This will be the last time the Sun and Pluto will conjunct in Capricorn in our lifetimes. And then both the Sun and Pluto move into Aquarius. For Pluto, this is the first time in over two centuries. Read on to learn more…

January 14- Venus in Sag quincunx Uranus in Taurus at 19 degrees. Please read last week’s post about this energy, but essentially relationships may need an adjustment. People may feel they need some more breathing room. If you're feeling a little claustrophobic, take some "me" time. Can you manage the tension within a relationship without blowing the whole thing up? Mercury has just moved into Capricorn our thinking and communication can become more strategic, practical, and disciplined.

January 15- Sun in Capricorn sextiles Neptune in Pisces at 25 degrees. If we’ve been working hard, perhaps burning the candle at both ends, we may feel urged to take a break. In the US it’s Martin Luther King Day, so we may even have the day off. We may want to look at our work and life balance. We may be inspired to be creative in a non-linear kind of way. We may consider our life’s purpose or what brings us a sense of spiritual sustenance.

January 17- Mercury in Capricorn sextiles Saturn in Pisces at 3 degrees Our words are meaningful. Say what you mean, mean what you say. Consider any contracts now that Mercury is out of RX and moving past its shadow phase. We may feel we are better able to focus on the tasks at hand. A pragmatic approach to any issue may be more easily employed.

January 18- Mercury in Capricorn trines Jupiter in Taurus at 6 degrees The Moon is conjunct Taurus at this time as well. Our outlook may brighten and broaden. We may feel some optimism and hope. This feels linked to the sense of awe we might get when we see the night sky or some natural wonder that grounds and connects us.

January 19-  Venus in sag square Neptune in Pisces at 25 degrees. We may want to avoid reality and go play with a loved one. Or we may ignore red flags when it comes to our most important relationships.

Sun in Capricorn conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn at 29 degrees. Pluto has been in Capricorn for 15 years. When Pluto arrives on the scene, we know we are in for some regenerative process. Something has to die before it can be reborn. We are looking at themes around power, corruption, decay, obsession, purging, things that expired or rotten, and the like. Pluto is the lord of the Underworld, so whatever has been hidden, in the shadows, or swept under the rug, Pluto is unearthing and bringing into the light (especially with the Sun’s conjunction acting almost like a klieg light spotlighting something). Some structures, organizations, or institutions have been operating beyond what can be sustained. What parts are obsolete, antiquated, or no longer functional? Pluto is rooting out what has been decaying. I am reminded that Pluto first points out what needs to change, and then there's a building back. Perhaps with Pluto coming into Aquarius, we will learn the importance of every sentient and non-sentient being on the planet--how each part helps make the whole. As Richard Tarnas has said, "We absolutely need to have communities that can together sustain the enormous act of the spiritual and intellectual imagination that can vivify and co-creatively participate in the reawakening of a meaningful cosmology for our civilization."

The Sun and Pluto feel like they’re coming together to make one large exclamation point of the Plutonian journey through Capricorn–sort of like a highlight reel--although what is shown may not be easy to view. We may feel there is some final “lesson” from Pluto around this time.

Over the last 15 years around this time, the Sun and Pluto met up. Some news stories that feel connected to the Sun/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn:

  • January 10, 2023- Trye Nichols died after being brutally assaulted by Memphis police officers

  • January 2022 News of Russia’s plan to invade Ukraine (which occurred in February 2022)

  • January 6, 2021- The US Capitol attack

  • January 2020- Covid pandemic

  • January 2019- US government shutdown for 35 days (longest ever)

These are just a few. Do you remember other significant news stories?

The Moon, this week, also met up with Neptune, Chiron, Jupiter, and Uranus. Reflect back on what may have been sparked or lit up for you in the Pisces, Aries, and Taurus houses this week.

**My intention with these weekly astrology reports is something like looking at a weather app. If you know it will rain, you’ll bring an umbrella. Awareness can help us navigate the Astro “weather” too. I  hope to share this information in an easily digestible way (not too much jargon).  Please read this information knowing that these energies can appear in higher or lower forms. Even though I may give specific dates for the exact aspects, you could feel the energies a few days before or after as the aspects form and separate. These are all based on EST times.
