Here we are, the final week of December 2023. Thanks to those who emailed asking for the aspects to be underlined and the degrees to be noted. Trying them out this week.
December 25: Venus in Scorpio trine Neptune in Pisces at 24 degrees. For those who celebrate Christmas, we may enjoy this day. We may feel nostalgic for holidays past and the people who are around us. There is the potential to tap into some easy-flowing, peaceful, romantic if somewhat intense or sensitive emotions around this day. Neptune offers a dreamy, distracted energy while Venus wants to investigate all those powerful emotions we have for the people or experiences we love. We may hunger for more. Conversely, we could be missing those we love and are no longer with. I liken the fixed water sign of Scorpio to an iceberg. We can find some of our emotions feel fixed, almost as if they were frozen in time, perfectly preserved. Are we able to examine these emotions? Or do we wall ourselves off from them? Today (and days around this day) we may want to explore a bit, but carefully. Consider the tools we might use to do this work. We wouldn’t want a blow torch, that might cause a tsunami of emotions to be released too quickly. Perhaps an ice pick? Something we can slowly poke around with? It’s also possible that we just let emotions wash over us these few days, never hanging on to one too long and moving on to the next. We may want to veg out and fully indulge with the people we love. The Full Moon in Cancer the next day almost ensures an extra flow of emotions around these days.
December 26: Full Moon in Cancer at 4 degrees. The Full Moon connotes a time of release. The Moon has gone through a cycle, and like a piece of ripened fruit, it’s come to a culmination and it’s time for reaping what was sown. The Moon rules Cancer. We recognize the ebb and flow of life. We may be reflecting on how satiated we are (or aren’t). Do we feel nourished? Are we finding that some things are harder to digest? How safe do we feel (or don’t)? How do we define a sense of security? How do we remember the feeling of being safe and nurtured as a child (or not)? How does that inform us now? We may want to hunker down with loved ones and bask in the glow of some much needed time together as the year draws to an end.
Jupiter will sextile the Moon and trine the Sun (around 5 degrees). Jupiter is about meaning-making. Who do we surround ourselves with? We may feel the uplifting boost of those we are aligned with. We may think about what our philosophies are around home and hearth. Is everyone afforded the same sense of certainty?
Saturn in Pisces is offering a trine to this Full Moon. This could feel like a “group hug”--we may feel grateful for our tribe and having their support.
However, we could be dealing with conflicting energies around this time with the Moon sitting next to Mercury and Mars in what’s called an out-of-sign conjunction in Sagittarius. Be careful with your words. Things said in anger may be forgiven but not forgotten. And since Mars and Mercury square Neptune, we may be a bit delusional or oblivious about their impact on others.
Chiron in Aries stations direct at 15 degrees. Chiron in Aries may have us reflecting on how it feels to be human and be in a “meat suit”. Aries glyph is the ram. There’s often nothing subtle about the ram or its actions. When it wants something or defending itself, etc it doesn’t sashay towards it. It tenses and bunches up, then implodes forward. "Act first, think second" type of energy. So there can be an impulsivity connected to Aries. How have our actions hurt ourselves or others? Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac, so it’s the first one out of the gate, so to speak. It’s not easy being a front-runner. Maybe during this RX period, we passed the torch for a bit, but now that Chiron is stationing direct, ready or not, it's time to get back in the game.
December 27th has several aspects colliding in a confluence of energy. First, there is Mercury RX conjunct Mars in Sag at 24 degrees. (Some of these aspects are a continuation and already noted above.) Be careful what you say during these days. There may be a difference in opinion or a clash of philosophies. Remember that Mercury is RX, so you may want to think (Mercury) before you act (Mars). To further complicate things, this Mercury (with Mars conjunct it) squares Neptune in Pisces at 25 degrees, so we may feel like, without thought, things just come out, whether we intended to or not. There could be a certain nuance to communication, and with Mars there, it could be fiery or sassy. For Mercury, this is the 2nd square with Neptune, the last time was around November 26th. In the US, that was the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Does anything come to mind about what was occurring during that time? Conversations, contracts, and plans that may have been moving forward then, may be in a review period now. The final square between Mercury and Neptune will be on January 9th and the Moon will be a part of that connection. Mars will have newly moved into Capricorn, but perhaps, by that time, you’ll be able to take action on an instinct you’ve had or move forward strategically. And, finally, on and around the 27th, the Sun in Capricorn will trine Jupiter in Taurus at 5 degrees. There’s a sunny, exuberant, if somewhat indulgent energy on deck. It could show up like a grandparent spoiling a grandchild. A desire to share something special. However, it could also be something similar to a toddler throwing a temper tantrum….an “I want what I want” type of experience. Maybe you were able to arrange an extra day off from work and feel grateful.
We move on to the 28th, and first, we have Mars in Sag squaring Neptune in Pisces at 25 degrees (which may just feel like a continuation of the day before in some way). We have a dream and we want it to happen now. But Neptune makes things hazy, so we may feel like we want to speed off but it’s a foggy day. Perhaps we are having a transcendental moment thinking of all that we have done in the year 2023 and we just sit and enjoy what we’ve been able to do. Can we appreciate the strength and vitality needed to make it to this point? On the flip side, we might be wondering about what was frittered away, Did we squander some energy or dream we had? We may feel urged or prodded to bust a move on making it a reality. This energy can get us started, but since it's mutable energy we may feel pulled in several directions. Perhaps wait until Mars moves into Capricorn (January 4th) to make a strategic plan. Finally, we have Venus in Scorpio sextile Pluto in Capricorn at 29 degrees. As we wrap up this year, let’s look at our relationship patterns, shall we? Let’s go deep. Let’s get passionate. Let’s investigate. Are we a tad obsessive in relationships? What are the power dynamics playing out in our most intimate relationships? What role does jealousy play? Control? Is there a pattern in our partnerships that needs to be transformed? What empowers us in relationships? Did anything come to awareness when Venus opposed Uranus around December 20th?
December 29th-
And then the next day, Venus moves into Sagittarius. She will square Saturn almost immediately which may be a ‘meh’ feeling for any NYE get-together. It’s like we may want to get together and feel a sense of optimism (what Venus wants to bring to the party) but it’s pouring rain and we forgot our rain gear (what Saturn brings). Saturn could be a Debbie Downer but also a reality check and sometimes we need those. I don’t mean to suggest Saturn is always a “bad” thing, we, as humans, tend to not like a reminder of what we are responsible for though. Whatever we learned when Venus sextiled Pluto may inform some future decision-making around relationships.
December 30th- Jupiter will move out of retrograde (at 5 degrees) and go direct wrapping up a time of review and reconsideration on Jupiterian themes of meaning-making, doctrines, philosophies, tenets, learning, teaching, expansion, optimism, faith, religion, etc. May this review be beneficial to all of us and we bring a sense of hope into the new year.
The Moon during this period moves from Gemini to Virgo. *These are fasting moving transits so degrees and orbs will vary. You could feel the energy similar to watching low/high tide. Some emotion comes in, swells, and then recedes. Take care of your emotional needs. Be aware of your feelings. Take frequent breaks if you need to. If you can't, remind yourself to take deep breaths.
We start with the Moon in Gemini opposing the forming Mercury/Mars conjunction (around 23-25 degrees). What’s being reflected to us about our words or actions or both? Are we standing on our pulpit? Can we get curious about other people’s reactions to our tenets or rhetoric, especially if they aren’t in agreement? It could flavor the Full Moon on the 26th.
Read above about the Full Moon in Cancer at 4 degrees.
The Moon in Cancer will square Chiron on the 27th and oppose Pluto in Capricorn on the 28th (at 15 and 29 degrees respectively). This could signal a few days of catharsis or intense emotions around home, safety, security, or a mothering or nurturing energy.
The Moon in Leo squares Jupiter in Taurus on the 28th at 5 degrees. Emotions could swell. Feelings of well-being and fortune or perhaps of extravagance and overindulgence
The Moon in Leo creates a fire trine with Mercury/Mars in Sag and the North Node in Aries on the 30th (around 20-26 degrees). An energy that feels fated though it stretches us to consider how we think, act, and feel.
The Moon in Virgo opposes Saturn in Pisces on the 31st (at 3 degrees). A reality check. A need for discernment and boundaries. What do we need to prioritize? We may want to isolate or feel a bit lonely.
**My intention with these weekly astrology reports is something like looking at a weather app. If you know it will rain, you’ll bring an umbrella. Awareness can help us navigate the Astro “weather” too. I hope to share this information in an easily digestible way (not too much jargon). Please read this information knowing that these energies can appear in higher or lower forms. Even though I may give specific dates for the exact aspects, you could feel the energies a few days before or after as the aspects form and separate. These are all based on EST times.
