Biden’s Chart: Hemispheres
This is not meant to be a political post, it’s meant to be an exercise in astrology. So please keep that in mind as you read this.
Some of this may be too technical for beginners. My suggestion is to not let that stop you and to simply notice what stands out or resonates for you.
This is an A Rodden rated chart. Some of you asked about this after reading the Trump chart review. Rodden is a rating system for birth charts. For a chart to have an A or AA rating it requires accurate birth time. In astrology, the birth time is critical for knowing the angles and houses. A and AA are the highest ratings.
I want to look at Biden’s chart hemispherically. When we divide the chart we are usually using the angles: the ASC, DSC, MC, and IC. The angles are very important points in the chart. In very simple terms: ASC=ascendant aka how I see the world and how others view me, DSC= descendent aka the “other” and who we attract in, MC= medium coeli or midheaven aka public image and life’s work, and IC= imum coeli aka roots and family.
The first image is Biden’s natal chart. You will see a black line going from his ASC to DSC or from left to right. Almost all of his planets are in the top half of the chart between the houses of 7-12, except for Uranus in Gemini, which is very close to his DSC, his Moon in Taurus in the 5th house, and his South Node (SN) in Pisces in the 3rd house.
When most of your planets are above the horizon it is said that all of our planets are “seen” and we want to project them out for others to see. Deborah Houlding, an astrologer, states, “At a general level their influence is considered to be more active, forceful, and outwardly expressed (or social). The 10th house, being associated with the midheaven (MC), is particularly termed ‘above the earth’.” With so many planets above the horizon you could say, he is here to make his mark on the world. Like a musician, his focus is on his life’s work or opus.
Biden is a Sagittarius rising (ASC) and Jupiter is his chart ruler. We find Jupiter retrograde in Cancer in the 8th house. Jupiter, in ancient astrology, is considered a benefic. To have it retrograde may suggest it’s a bit harder to access those assets or there is a more internal process happening for him. Erin Sullivan, an astrologer writes, “Yet regression does seem to indicate a degree of internalization around the principles of the retrograde planet.” Jupiter’s archetype has to do with expansion, growth, higher learning, morality, optimism, tenets, entitlement, inflation, and arrogance. Cancer has to do with moods, emotions, intuition, protecting, defending, and security themes. The 8th house is also considered hidden or harder to access, which is based on the idea that from the perspective of the ASC, its sight lines aren’t as accessible. (The other houses that are considered less visible are the 2nd, 6th, and 12th for the same reason.)
As an astrologer, we tend to break down a chart by looking at the ASC, its ruler, the Sun, and the Moon to get a general sense of an individual’s drives and motivations. Biden’s ASC is Sag and some Sag keywords are: idealist, freedom/independence, seeker, self-righteous, extroverted, philosophical, and independent to name a few. Does that resonate with how people see him? Does that seem like his attitude in life?
He has a very large stellium in Scorpio that begins with Mars in his 11th house of friends, associations, hopes, and wishes, and then moves into the 12th house with Mercury, Sun, and Venus. The 12th house is related to our hidden areas/shadows, psychological and spiritual well-being and undoing. This may be an area of life that we aren’t as conscious of. Traditional astrology would say Mars rules Scorpio, but in modern astrology, Pluto has that claim. Natally, his Pluto in Leo squares his Mars in Scorpio. Renn Butler uses these phrases to describe this combo: “Intense willpower and courage, drive and passion, determined efforts toward renewal and regeneration, volcanic catharsis. Tendencies toward brute force and ruthlessness, overexertion and pushing too hard, vulgar or coarse sexuality.” To have Mars, Sun, Mercury, and Venus in conjunction may suggest someone who is intensely passionate, relationship-oriented, communication-driven, and powerfully focused on things like power, regeneration, and things happening behind the scenes.
In astrology, we pay attention to reoccurring themes so take note of a motif regarding visibility and concealment.
Moving on to the 2nd chart, we see the current transits, as of December 21, 2023, when I’m writing this article. As you can see, almost all the planets are in the lower half of the chart, except for Venus in Scorpio in his 12th house and the South Node in Libra in his 11th. This seems like a subterranean experience for him. Pluto, the Lord of the Underworld, for the last 15 years has been tilling his 1st and 2nd houses– perhaps unearthing thoughts on who he thinks he is, his appearance, what he values, and what he’s worth. I’m curious if being seen or so visible has weighed him down or created some internal unrest?
The third chart is of the Lunar eclipse that happened on October 28, 2023, which would have impacted his Moon in Taurus. This archetype wants stability, security, and physical comfort. “There can be a huge dislike of change, even when change may be what is required,” says astrologer Sue Tompkins of Moon in Taurus. An eclipse is an unstable energy, one of the “lights” is obscured, and for this one, it was the Moon. At the time, Biden made several statements about the wars involving Israel and Hamas and Ukraine and Russia. Biden has been very vocal of his stalwart support for Israel and Ukraine. Will this change?
The fourth chart is of the upcoming Uranus/Jupiter conjunction which will happen on April 21, 2024. This will occur in Biden’s 6th house and opposite his Mercury in Scorpio, and in essence, will affect that entire stellium in the 12th house. The 6th house usually represents physical health and well-being, habits, and our daily work. The 12th house has to do with our psychological and spiritual well-being or undoing. I’ll be curious to see if there is some increased concern for job security and/or health issues.
Dates of interest:
November 2023: Around his birthday we had several transiting planets going over his stellium in Scorpio. we had the Sun, Mercury, and Mars transiting all of his natal planets there. When planets come back to their natal positions it’s called a return. So he had a solar (Sun) return on his birthday 11/20/23, a Mars return on 10/29/23, and a Mercury return on 11/3/23. Coming soon will be his Venus return on 12/27/23. I also think it’s fascinating that the transiting South Node went over this stellium from late January 2022 to mid-December 2022. The South Node is about releasing and letting go.
January 1, 2024: Venus will move over his ASC and join the other transiting planets, while the Moon conjuncts his MC in Virgo. What does the theme around relating (Venus) with others have to do with his outlook (ASC) on life? What is being reflected (Moon) back about his purpose (MC)? Having an MC in Virgo often speaks to someone who feels they need to live a life of service. Frank Clifford, an astrologer, speaks about how important it may be for someone with a Virgo MC to have a routine and to work, even past a time when others “retire.” He notes, “At times we may be known for our idiosyncrasies, eccentricities, strange diets, or ongoing health issues.” How many of us have seen a reel of Biden’s trips and falls? His MC is ruled by Mercury which is part of that stellium in Scorpio.
April 21, 2024: Read above about the 4th chart provided. This does seem to reflect the hemispheric theme of what’s visible and what’s hidden.
I hope you found this information enlightening. I am very curious to see how this hemispheric shift affects him and whether that will be seen in any media coverage.
